The Dale Hurst Writing Show

Witches show Sells out!
2025 has gotten off to a cracking start with our first production selling out. Our Black Dog Theatre Creation in Colchester has been exploring panto-like larger-than-life characters and wordplay. They have created a special free performance retelling the popular story “The Witches” by Roald Dahl at the Kelvedon Institute. Tickets went on sale on Monday lunchtime and has sold out within two hours.
Story Box project praised for positive impact
Our Story Box Community Theatre Project in Kelvedon and Tiptree has been praised by the Fowler Smith and Jones Trust for it’s positive impact made last year for the local rural communities. Last year, we explored music and oral storytelling as performance techniques working with older members of the community before retelling the story of The Gruffalo for free to the local community.
New and returning links for Black Dog East-Ham
Our East -Ham Black Dog Theatre Creation has just begun its rehearsals for their second performance “Fantastic Mr Fox” and we are delighted to not only be returning to the East-Ham Library, but we will also be performing at the Manor Park Library for the first time in a new community link. Last year, we performed to over 150 families each performance at the East-Ham library bringing theatre into the community and to many young people for the first time.
Pride London Community Project gleaming with ‘Pride”
Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, our Pride London Community Heritage Project is now halfway through and we have learnt so much from the project. We have been busy working alongside the National Archives and The Bishopsgate Institute learning about the first London Pride march and the story about how it came to happen and the impact it has had upon our way of life. The new play “Proud” will be performed at the Courtyard Theatre, London in June as part of Pride month.
Soldier given the green light
We are extremely excited that our one-act play “The Soldier” has been given the green light to be performed in June as part of this years Armed Forces Day

A new exciting theatre project aimed at supporting local women in Loughton and surrounding areas particularly those whom are stay at home or retired.

Each year we work with the Armed Forces Day to create a community theatre project which explores army life and pays respect to the army and what it does to support our community.
