What's eating Gilbert?

A play by Alfie James

At The Hen & Chicken's Theatre, London

Friday 8th - Saturday 9th December 7.30PM

“What’s in the bag, Gilbert? Why are you being such a knob? What is it?

(Short pause)

What is it?”

When Gilbert runs off after an argument at a family party it is Luke, his older stepbrother who runs after him. The two teenage boys used to be inseparable, but more recently, have become like two passing ships hardly speaking at all. Was it true what they said about Gilbert at the party? Why has he been acting so weird lately? And what’s he hiding in his bag?

“What’s eating Gilbert?” is the new one-act play written by award-winning writer Alfie James. Working alongside The Arts Council, England and BEAT, this new play explores eating disorders and particularly, the growing number of young men affected.

"An inspirational story, beautifully written" (Watford Fringe)
All Fiona has ever dreamed of is to be on stage. When she is performing, she becomes alive. There’s just one problem…she has stills disease which has forced her to live her life in a wheelchair.

Inspired by the experiences of artist Sophie Weaver and featuring a cast of both disabled and no-disabled performers about following your dreams and overcoming obstacles.

Part of the Ruptured Duck Theatre Project which explored disability and accessibility in the arts. The piece was first developed as an audio play during Covid:19 and went on to become a popular piece at the Watford Fringe Festival. We'd love to now invite
you along to share with you our first live performance of the piece. Written and directed by Alfie James.
